Last updated 21 May 2026. We've tried to write this in plain English. If anything's unclear, email hello@sentinelapp.solar and we'll fix it.

Who we are

Sentinel is operated by RVTC LTD, a UK private limited company registered in England and Wales. Our registered contact for data-protection enquiries is hello@sentinelapp.solar.

What data we collect

From your inverter

Once you've installed the Sentinel agent on your network, it reads telemetry from your GivEnergy inverter over the local Modbus interface and forwards a summary to our UK cloud. This includes:

  • Power values (solar, battery, grid, load) and state of charge
  • Battery voltage, temperature and energy counters
  • Inverter temperature, firmware version, fault and error codes
  • Charge / discharge schedule and mode settings

We do not read or transmit your home WiFi password, LAN topology, other devices on your network, or any non-inverter data.

From you

  • Account details — name and email address when you pair an agent or buy a paid service.
  • Payment details — handled entirely by Stripe. We never see your card number; Stripe gives us a token to charge against.
  • Support enquiries — anything you send us by email, contact form, WhatsApp or phone.

How we use it

  • To run the Sentinel monitoring service you've asked us to run.
  • To detect faults on your system and tell you about them.
  • To process payments for paid tiers (Guard, Settings change, Diagnostic, Remedial).
  • To respond when you contact us.
  • To improve Sentinel — aggregated, anonymised fault patterns help us catch more issues faster across the fleet.

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with marketers. We do not show third-party ads on Sentinel.

Who we share it with

  • Solar Tech Support (sister brand, same legal entity) — fault alerts and engineer-access sessions you've triggered.
  • Cloudflare (UK / EU regions) — hosts the Sentinel cloud infrastructure.
  • Stripe — for payment processing.
  • Email / SMS providers (e.g. Postmark, Twilio) — to deliver alerts you've subscribed to.
  • HMRC / regulators — when legally required.

Where it's stored

All Sentinel infrastructure runs on Cloudflare's UK / EU edge and storage regions. Your data does not leave the UK / EU unless you contact us from outside it (in which case email replies may route through your local server).

How long we keep it

  • Telemetry — Watch (free): real-time only. Last 24 hours kept in our cloud's in-memory state, reset when your session is idle. Never persisted to disk.
  • Telemetry — Guard (£1/mo): rolling 12 months. Data older than 12 months is automatically purged each night. Stored encrypted at rest on Cloudflare R2 in UK/EU regions.
  • Telemetry — Strategist (planned tier, not yet available): system-lifetime retention. Every reading from install day forward is kept for as long as the subscription is active.
  • If you cancel: we keep your existing historical data read-only for a grace period in case you re-subscribe. Guard cancellations: 90 days. Strategist cancellations: 12 months. After the grace period, all historical telemetry is permanently deleted.
  • If you uninstall the agent and stop using Sentinel entirely: after 305 days of no telemetry we email you a deletion warning. After 365 days your account and all associated telemetry are permanently deleted, in line with the UK GDPR principle of data minimisation.
  • Audit log (every engineer action on your system) — 7 years, for safety and legal reasons.
  • Account + payment records — 7 years after your last paid invoice, per HMRC.
  • Support correspondence — 2 years, then deleted.

Your rights under UK GDPR

You can ask us to: see what we hold on you; correct anything wrong; delete your account; export your telemetry (CSV); restrict processing; or object to a particular use. Email hello@sentinelapp.solar and we'll respond within 30 days. If you're not happy with our response you can complain to the ICO.

Cookies

The Sentinel website uses a minimal set of strictly-necessary cookies (session auth, CSRF) plus one anonymous analytics cookie. We do not use third-party tracking, advertising, or cross-site cookies.

Security

The Sentinel agent connects to our cloud over outbound TLS only, with mutual-TLS device certificates rotated annually. All write commands require you to explicitly arm an engineer-access window from your dashboard. Every action is logged immutably.

Changes to this policy

We'll email you if anything material changes. Minor wording tweaks are tracked in the date at the top.
