Why Sentinel exists
GivEnergy Ltd went into administration on 9 April 2026, leaving roughly thirty thousand UK households without manufacturer support for their solar and battery systems. GivEnergy Software Ltd announced a paid-tier cloud at £2/month/device, but trust was already broken.
We're the team that answers the phone at Solar Tech Support — UK customers were ringing us asking what they should do. Sentinel is our answer. Free monitoring that runs on your own network, with optional paid features and engineer services that route through the same STS engineers at the same prices we've always charged.
The three brands, plainly
- Alectrona — our new-install business. Engineer-led solar PV across the UK, with a built-in feedback loop from the Solar Tech Support workshop.
- Solar Tech Support — diagnostics, settings changes, on-site repair, remedial work. Every brand of inverter, UK-wide.
- Sentinel — free monitoring + lead capture. The funnel that surfaces faults so STS can fix them and Alectrona can replace what's beyond economic repair.
All three are operated by RVTC LTD, a UK private limited company registered in England and Wales. The same engineers; three brands to keep the work cleanly separable.
How Sentinel makes money
Honestly: it mostly doesn't. The monitoring tier is free forever and the £1/month Guard subscription barely covers infrastructure. Sentinel exists as a loss-leader for the engineering work — when Sentinel spots a fault on your system we'd rather you ring STS than discover the fault three months later as a bigger problem. That's the model.
If you never need an engineer, you've cost us nothing and we're happy you have a healthy system. If you do, we're who you'd want anyway.
What we won't do
- We don't sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to insurers, not to anyone. (See privacy policy.)
- We don't change your inverter settings without your explicit consent — every write is gated on a customer-armed window and logged immutably.
- We don't pretend to be the official GivEnergy product. We're not affiliated with GivEnergy Ltd or GivEnergy Software Ltd. We just built a thing because the customers asked for it.
